Dolphin Motor Repair (recommended read)

Often times the failure of the motor is related to the small circuit board that is inside the motor assembly. I found an on-line repair facility, Circuit Board Medics located in Greenville SC who was able to test and repair the motor circuit board for $150. That saved me from buying a $400 motor for my unit.

I think I solved my issue. Robot would fire up impeller motor for a split second and stop, then the power unit would turn off. I get the same voltage reading from the output of the power unit, to the end of the cable, thru to the terminals on the circuit board for the impeller motor. With the impeller motor disconnected, the drive motor will run and the power unit doesn’t shut off. Power is also continuous to the leads for the motor brushes too. The shaft and wound copper just wont spin...maybe the brushes?

Anyway, I just need an impeller motor to solve the headache!

I had the impeller motor go. Tried to repair it and tried the resistor trick, but the motor won't keep running. Decided to part it out now and earn a down-payment on a newer pool cleaner. Just listed on Craigslist in Vanouver. I enjoyed the dolphin while I had it though. Simple and stealthy.

These how up quite frequently on eBay with a decent price. Sellers will part out units that have a dead motor.

I finally stopped trying - It is generally the IC board in the motor or the power supply.

I found a great source for replacement parts -

After a lot of hours and looking, I found that the best way to go. You can order just the motor and they are easy to drop in.

I'm in Columbia and need my Dolphin repaired. Runs for a few minutes then stops. Can turn on again using remote and works again for a short time. Can you repair it? Would at least save me on shipping costs.

I also have a couple of the motors with board issues that I am not going to repair since I found the source for reasonably priced refurbished motors. I would be glad to give you a top impeller motor for just the cost of shipping if I had a way to get your contact information. Occasionally you will see the motors offered on eBay also as individual items. - Randy

I had one motor repaired and since then, I have not found anyone who could / would repair the motor boards.

I since have found a source for replacement motors for under $300 - at that price, it is not worth having them repaired when you can get a guaranteed replacement motor at that price -

I too contacted Industrial Electonics, who said they would repair my board for $350 plus $25 shipping and guaranteed it for a year. Problem was went I got it back, same problem. I then sent both motors and the board to Industrial Electonics, and they told me the fan motor is bad and cannot be repaired. So now I am even deeper in the hole to this robot. Anyone know where I can find a replacement motor? I've googled for hours with no success.

Industrial Electonics wanted to charge me $350 plus $25 shipping to fix my board (but guaranteed for a year). And I think its only the Timing Chip (starts goes backwards and stops). I declined.

The guys in Greenville SC are no longer servicing the motor board, but I found another source. Industrial Electronic Repair in North Carolina lists the circuit boards from Maytronics as something they service. http://www.iernc.com/manufactures/B/Board%20Repair/index2.php

I have not tried them yet, but plan to send them a motor shortly. Good luck!

Randy Bradley from (Columbia, SC) Whai is the name of the company that repaired the CKY board.
From what I'm seeing the Dolphin has major problems with it CKT board. I have had two. One was the motor and the newer one has been sent in befor for repairs last year, Please get me the name of the company that fixed your board.
