Remote For Dolphin Reprogramming

I have a dolphin dynamic 2002. My remote got moisture in it and quit working. I purchased one on craigslist and can't get it to even turn on. Seller claims I might have to get it reprogrammed with the cleaner. Shouldn't it at least turn on with new batteries in it? He claims it was reprogrammed with his unit and took about 6 minutes to turn on. My old one turned on instantly. After programming remote to cleaner, I rarely used it instead just turning unit on and off and it would run for the 8 hour cycle. Once in a while it would seem to lose it's memory and would have to be restarted with remote. My dolphin turns on and makes a few turns and shuts off waiting for remote orders. What should I do?
